Amazing Thailand
BANGKOK
One
night in Bangkok and the world’s your oyster! But a few
days is even better, and most tourists stop over to
experience this veritable traffic jam of history, culture, shopping, nightlife,
people-watching and heady fun for all. Thailand’s capital
city is a tourist attraction in itself and most visitors invariably spend a day
or two on tours of Bangkok. In fact, it’s so big, busy and
daunting to some, that tours are the preferred way of getting to all the main
sights in Bangkok before moving on to the rest of the country. Past, present
and future live harmoniously together. Indeed, Bangkok has it all; it’s a sensory thrill that
never ceases to delight.
HOTELS
Choosing a hotel in Bangkok that perfectly
lives up to your expectations is the easiest thing in the world. It offers a
wide range of places in every style, price category, and all popular locations.
The best part is that one can negotiate great rates.

RESTAURANTS
There are plenty of restaurants in Bangkok, so you’re
never far from some form of food outlet. Everywhere you look there are noodle
stands, fruit stalls, curry shops, road-side barbecues and even carts selling
fried insects; and then there are countless superb restaurants serving
international as well as Thai and other Asian cuisine to suit most tastes and
budgets. The range of options is quite staggering and very few visitors or experts
can claim to have tried everything Bangkok restaurants
have to offer.
Thai
food is famous the world over
WEATHER
Bangkok is a tropical
city so it's pretty warm throughout the year! One of Thailand's most celebrated
festivals, Songkran, takes place in April
and involves lots of refreshing water throwing to help you cool down. The best
time to visit is from October until February, with temperatures around
25- 28C, light breezes and only the occasional shower.
Bangkok is the center of
all things Thai it’s a great place to see many of the most important, not to
mention beautiful, buildings and temples in Thailand. There really is
plenty to see and do in this vibrant city and we hope this Bangkok guide will help
you plan your visit.
Among Bangkok's high rises is
a rich heritage of culture
Bangkok offers a wealth of culture, interest and sightseeing, contrary to
what you might believe. The stunning and intricately decorated temples that are
all over Bangkok range from the
exquisite to the magnificent – Wat Phra Kaew and Wat
Pho being two fantastic examples.
There are numerous other sights throughout Bangkok which a guide
can take you to: the backpackers’ haven of Khao San Road is famous as a
buzzing, energetic street that has now become something of a tourist attraction
itself. It’s located in the Banglamphu area
which is loaded with tourist attractions, including the national museum,
Temple Mount, Grand Palace and nearby Dusit
Hall and Zoo.
The teak palace of Vimanmek and Jim
Thomson’s museum house, along with the canals of Thonburi
and lanes of Chinatown are all recommended in every Bangkok guide book, and
the modern attractions of shopping malls, markets, monuments and entertainment
complexes all pull the crowds.
Then there is the famous evening entertainment, including the go go bars, lively pubs, plush restaurants and night markets.
BANGKOK TOURS
Some parts of Bangkok are best seen by
river boat
Tours of Bangkok can be arranged through your hotel concierge or one of
the many travel agents in the tourist areas, especially Khao
San road. There are numerous options allowing you to experience Bangkok and all its
attractions by foot, boat or bus. There are even some bicycle tours of the
outlying areas. Standard tours visit all the main sites in a day, and then
there is the option of specialty tours such as the Thon Buri
canals which give you a glimpse of what Bangkok was like when it was known
as the ‘Venice of the East’. There is also the floating market, the Ancient
city historical park and a host of offbeat tours of Bangkok, such as
shopping, culture and nightlife tours.
The
Floating Market: is a favorite among foreign visitors who experience
this delightful working market as their long tail boats guide tourist shoppers
among all the wares. Located an hour’s drive southwest of Bangkok; it is colorful,
chaotic, impressionable, and full of smells and unusual foods. You’ll need to
get up early to get there in good time. The Ancient city historical park offers
a chance to see Thailand's best sites in
a day
Pattaya:
is the
nearest decent seaside city. It’s a high-rise and package tourist place, with
some acceptable beaches, close enough to Bangkok for an overnight
visit. Some people think its great fun and many live there; others prefer to
head to the better seaside resorts further south.
SHOPPING
Bangkok
is a shopper’s paradise, and part of your
trip to Thailand should certainly
include a day or two for browsing the shops and malls of the city. The range is
impressive and the prices unbeatable.
Thais love shopping and so will you in Bangkok
But the shopping in Bangkok doesn’t stop
there: no trip to Bangkok is complete
without a visit to the colossal Chatuchak
weekend market, in which you can pick up your ideal holiday souvenirs at
knock down prices. And there are countless other markets and gatherings of
street stalls all over Bangkok, meaning that
bargain hunters will be spoilt for choice when shopping in Bangkok.
But perhaps the ideal souvenir from Thailand would be some
expertly woven Thai silk, or a perfectly tailored suit from one of Bangkok’s many tailors
or silk shops.
